EMDR, Sandtray, & Somatic Therapy: A Whole-Person Approach to Healing
Healing isn’t just about talking, nor is it a one-size-fits-all process. It’s about listening to the whole self: mind, body, and emotions. By integrating EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Sandtray Therapy, and Somatic Therapy, I offer a deeply holistic and trauma-informed approach that supports healing on every level. I refer to this as my “three-legged stool.”
The Power of Integration
Each of these modalities offers something unique:
EMDR helps the brain safely reprocess traumatic or stuck memories, reducing distress and fostering resilience.
Sandtray Therapy provides a visual, creative space to express and explore inner experiences when words aren’t enough.
Somatic Therapy brings awareness to the body, helping clients notice and release tension, trauma responses, and stored emotions held in the nervous system.
When combined, these approaches create a powerful synergy. EMDR brings in structured, bilateral stimulation for memory integration; the sandtray activates right-brain, symbolic processing. Lastly, somatic work grounds the experience, allowing healing to unfold all throughout the body.
To develop a thorough and comprehensive approach for each individual client, I also use other approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and expressive activities.
