Sandtray, EMDR & Somatic Therapy: A Whole-Person Approach to Healing

Healing isn’t just about talking, nor is it a one-size-fits-all process. It’s about listening to the whole self: mind, body, and emotions. By integrating Sandtray TherapyEMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Somatic Therapy, I offer a deeply holistic and trauma-informed approach that supports healing on every level. I refer to this as my “three-legged stool”

The Power of Integration

Each of these modalities offers something unique:

  • Sandtray Therapy provides a visual, creative space to express and explore inner experiences when words aren’t enough.

  • EMDR helps the brain safely reprocess traumatic or stuck memories, reducing distress and fostering resilience.

  • Somatic Therapy brings awareness to the body, helping clients notice and release tension, trauma responses, and stored emotions held in the nervous system.

When combined, these approaches create a powerful synergy. The sandtray activates right-brain, symbolic processing; EMDR brings in structured, bilateral stimulation for memory integration; and somatic work grounds the experience, allowing healing to unfold through the body—not just the mind.

To develop a thorough and comprehensive approach for each individual client, I also use other approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and expressive activities.
